For installing Android on Windows there are two ways to install Android on Windows, either with a virtualization software (VirtualBox), or with Android SDK. In this tutorial, we will use Android SDK, which is recommended.

Android SDK Installation Steps

1. Download Android SDK for Windows from here. Extract the archive file to any folder of your choice, then double-click SDK Manager.exe.
2. Once the SDK manager is started, it will ask you to select packages to be installed. You can leave default options, or simply select Accept All and click Install. The packages may take several minutes to be download, so be patient.
If asked to install JDK, then click Java Platform (JDK) 7 and select the appropriate package for your system.
3. When the download is complete, click New button on right side under the “Virtual devices” tab.

4.   Enter now the following parameters:

• Name: Enter any name of your choice
• Target: Select Android 3.2, you can test other versions later.
• SD Card: Size: 1024 (1GB), 2048 (2GB), etc.

Leave default options for the remaining parameters, then click Create AVD.
5. When the AVD is created, click OK.
6. Now select the already created Android virtual device (AVD) and click Start.
7. Leave default parameters as they are and click Launch.
8. Wait now while Android is booting, it may take several minutes for Android to start on your first launch.

New iPhones, iPods reportedly in Apple's retail system

While we're less than a week out from Apple taking the wraps off the next version of the iPhone, new models--yes you read that right, models--of the company's portable devices are already said to be in its inventory system.
Citing new information from frequent part leaking source "Mr. X," 9to5mac reports that two new iPhones have appeared in the company's inventory system alongside three new iPod Touch models.
Before getting too excited, 9to5Mac says the new models are marked with the hardware identifier "N90A" as opposed to the current iPhone 4's "N90" designation, and could very well be 8GB variations of the existing iPhone meant for entry-level buyers.
As for the iPods, the three new units carry the "N81A" identifier, which the outlet suggests could merely be to designate new white models. That's compared to the "N81" marking on Apple's existing iPod Touch models, which are only available in black.
Notably missing is a set of model numbers for a new iPhone line. At next week's event, Apple is largely expected to launch a successor to the iPhone 4 that improves on the older model with a faster processor, a better camera, and a thinner design.

Asus readies new all-in-one computers, UX-series ultrabook

Asus' is finally rolling out its latest batch of all-in-one computers, the 21.5-inch ET2210, 23.6-inch ET2410 and 27-inch ET2700. The machines were unveiled over a month ago and the medium-sized ET2410 is now available with a starting price of $899 while the smaller and larger variants are poised for arrival sometime in October and November.
Despite their size differences, all three carry 1920x1080 LED-backlight touchscreens, second-generation Intel Core processors, up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM and 1TB of storage. While most all-in-one machines have lackluster built-in audio solutions, Asus boasts that its systems have SonicMaster and DTS technologies along with an optional subwoofer.
The systems rest on an adjustable pedestal and also feature USB 2.0/3.0, eSATA and 802.11n wireless connectivity, HDMI output, a card reader, an optional Blu-ray drive and VESA mounting holes across the board. Certain units will come with a built-in TV tuner and an Nvidia GT540M, but most will be limited to Sandy Bridge's integrated graphics.

Mozilla releases Firefox 7.0, improves memory usage

Mozilla has released the final build of Firefox 7.0 for Windows, Mac and Linux today. The latest stable release is said to correct an issue that has plagued the browser over the past several iterations, resulting in a faster and more responsive web experience.
Firefox has been plagued with memory leak issues for years and the team at Mozilla finally addressed this in Firefox 7. MemShrink is an initiative that began in June to eradicate the browser's memory inconsistencies.
One aspect of MemShrink is better Javascript garbage collection. It's said to work more frequently now and should free up more memory when multiple tabs are open. This also means you can leave the browser running in the background and it will automatically free up unused memory, something that many previous versions were not capable of.
Users should expect Firefox 7 to be more stable than previous releases. This has to do with fewer OOMs, whether due to address space exhaustion or otherwise. This will result in fewer crashes due to mishandling of OOM or aborts.
Mozilla developer Nicholas Nethercote claims that Firefox 7 uses less memory than the past three versions, between 20 and 50 percent less in some instances.
Other minor changes include dropping http:// from the awesome bar and shading the sub-domain section of a URL a lighter grey. Firefox Sync now processes password and bookmark changes faster as well.

Amazon intros Kindle Fire tablet for $199

Amazon has finally unveiled its much-rumored Android-based tablet today, dubbed the Kindle Fire. The 7-inch (1024 x 600 ) device will feature a heavily customized interface tailored around Amazon's services and a low starting price of $200. To reach that price point, the Kindle Fire forgoes 3G access, a microphone and front/back cameras. However, the device does include Wi-Fi and a free 30-day trial of Amazon Prime, which normally runs $79/year.
That means you'll get a taste of Amazon's collection of streaming video content and free or discounted shipping for your purchases at Amazon.com. You'll also get access to the Android Appstore, Kindle books, magazines, and more -- all stored for free via Amazon Cloud Storage and synced between devices invisibly in the background. Whispersync now works with video content, so you can pick up where you left off in a movie or TV show even after switching devices.

Other specs include 8GB of internal storage, a USB 2.0 port, and battery life good for up to 8 hours of continuous reading or 7.5 hours of video playback, with wireless off.
The company is also introducing something called Amazon Silk, which it described as a lightning-fast web browser that takes advantage of Amazon's EC2 cloud computing engine. CEO Jeff Bezos explains that Silk splits the workload so that some web requests are handled locally by the Kindle Fire, while others are handled remotely on Amazon's cloud and sent back optimized for your device. It'll act as a "limitless cache" for the sites you visit to let you browse faster.
Amazon says the Kindle Fire will start shipping on November 15 but pre-orders are starting today. The company also unveiled a $99 touchscreen e-reader called the Kindle Touch and a regular Kindle that will start at just $79

Amazon likely to lose $50 for every Kindle Fire sold

Amazon is likely to lose around $50 for every Kindle Fire tablet that the company sells. Piper Jaffray’s Gene Muster further believes that the Fire isn’t a true competitor to Apple’s iPad, but it is more competitive than the financial services researcher initially thought.
Muster said as much in a note to investors just after Amazon’s announcement earlier today, according to CNN Money.
The analyst believes the 7-inch screen is one of the tablet’s cons. Additionally he lists the 8GB of local storage and lack of cameras and a 3G option on the minus side. In comparison, the iPad is available with 16GB, 32GB or 64GB of built-in storage.
Where the Kindle Fire will shine, however, is with its superior content delivery. Amazon will leverage their assets to provide movies, music, books and storage on the Cloud in addition to traditional web browsing and gaming. This is where the company is expected to make money on the tablet. In contrast, Apple makes about a 30 percent gross margin on iPad hardware upfront.
Muster thinks Apple’s tablet market share could fall to as low as 60% next year with Android’s share climbing to around 30 percent, riding the coattails of the Kindle Fire and other yet-to-be-released tablets.
Amazon introduced the Kindle Fire tablet earlier today at $199, significantly undercutting Apple’s iPad 2 which has a starting price of $499. Fire pre-orders are being taken now with units shipping on November 15.
