Ice Cream Sandwich Coming This Fall

Google has been dropping hints about an impending upgrade to the Android mobile OS for a long time now. The company is still in the process of officially announcing the release of Android 4.0, dubbed Ice Cream Sandwich for the numerically challenged. Although, the new OS was supposed to be released on 11th October according to a report byCNET, the launch has been shifted further in deference to the late Apple cofounder, Steve Jobs.

Ice Cream Sandwich is said to borrow features from both Gingerbread and Honeycomb versions. The release is expected to make life easy for Android developers, since they no longer have to create separate apps for mobile and tablet based Androids.

It is likely to feature a number of tweaks that will give users a new user interface, an updated app launcher, new and improved Home Screen, adding icons, new multi-tasking panel, and more. Ice Cream Sandwich is said to be a middle ground for Android, therefore most Android devices (tablets as well as smartphones) are expected to be compatible with it. The first device to run on the new OS is likely to be Samsung Nexus Prime
